Attorney Brent August Torrenga grew up in Highland, Indiana. After graduating from Highland High School, Brent attended Valparaiso University where he followed in his family’s footsteps and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. For several years, Brent excelled while working at Torrenga Engineering, Inc., a company founded by his grandfather. While working for his family’s company, Brent set out to carve a new path in his life by enrolling in law School at Valparaiso University School of Law. During law school Brent served as an extern for the Honorable John R. Pera, a judge of the Lake Superior Court, and, on two occasions, worked as an extern for the Northern District of Indiana Federal Community Defenders. It was also during law school that Brent first became involved with the Lake County Bar Association, where he has been an active member of the Young Lawyers’ Section. After graduating from law school and passing the Indiana Bar Exam in 2009, Brent began his legal practice as a solo practitioner. Brent is currently a partner at Schwerd, Fryman & Torrenga, LLP, where he focuses his practice on real estate and municipal law.
In his real estate practice, Brent has been before many boards and commissions, including the Lake County Board of Zoning Appeals, the Porter County Board of Zoning Appeals, the Lake County Plan Commission, the Porter County Plan Commission, as well as numerous city and town plan commissions and boards of zoning appeals.
Although Brent is passionate about his legal career, he also believes in giving back to his community. Brent has served as a Deputy Election Commissioner in Lake County and he also volunteers his time as a judge for the Munster High School Speech and Debate Team. In his spare time, Brent enjoys flying, having earned his pilot’s license at the age of nineteen.
